Rug Size Guide

Rug Size Guide

Selecting the appropriate rug size is essential for enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of your space. Below is a comprehensive guide to assist you in choosing the ideal rug dimensions for various rooms in your home.

Living Room

Large Living Rooms

For expansive areas, consider rugs measuring 275x365 cm or larger. These sizes can accommodate all furniture legs, creating a cohesive look.

Medium Living Rooms

A 240x300 cm rug typically fits well, allowing the front legs of sofas and chairs to rest on the rug, anchoring the seating arrangement.

Small Living Rooms

A 150x240 cm rug can be suitable, with furniture legs placed off the rug, ensuring the rug is centered within the seating area.

Dining Room

General Rule

Select a rug that extends at least 60 cm beyond the edges of the dining table. This ensures chairs remain on the rug even when pulled out.

Table for Four

A 180×275 cm rug is often  appropriate.

Table for Six to Eight

A 240×300 cm or 275×365 cm rug provides ample coverage.

Bedroom

King Bed

A 275x365 cm rug accommodates the bed and nightstands, offering a luxurious feel.

Queen Bed

A 240x300 cm rug fits well under the bed, extending beyond the sides and foot.

Full or Twin Bed

A 180x275 cm rug can be placed under the bed, leaving ample space around the perimeter.

Hallways and Entryways

Runners

For hallways, choose runners that leave 10 to 15 cm of flooring exposed on all sides. Standard runner sizes include 75x215 cm and 75x305 cm.

Entryways

A 90x150 cm or 120x180 cm rug can define the space and welcome guests.

Kitchens

Galley or Narrow Kitchens

A runner, such as 75x215 cm, placed along the length of the workspace adds comfort and style.

Open Kitchens

A 150x215 cm or 180x275 cm rug under a kitchen island or dining nook can delineate the area.

Outdoor Spaces

Patios and Decks

Durable outdoor rugs in sizes like 150x215 cm or 240x300 cm can define seating or dining areas, enhancing the outdoor living experience.

Additional Tips

Proportion and Balance

Ensure the rug size complements the room dimensions and furniture layout to maintain visual harmony.

Placement Consistency

In open floor plans, using similarly sized rugs can create a cohesive flow between spaces.

Safety Considerations

Use rug pads to prevent slipping and extend the life of your rug.
